Dancing the Blues

A quintet of solos set to blues tunes by Etta James, Nina Simone, & Otis Redding. Providing a physical representation to what these acclaimed singers do with their voices, the piece includes Halpin’s signature solo “all I could do” to the Etta James track by the same name.

Stepping Into Darkness

Looks at the damaging impact of displacement & warfare on women. A community of women struggle to survive, overcome, and resolve the emotional wreckage while seeing how the cycle of violence continues within themselves.

How Frail the Human Heart

Tracing the terrain of Self, the piece draws images from the writings of Kate Chopin, Sylvia Plath, & Virginia Wolf. The piece delves into identity & how different aspects of one’s personality are submerged to support the deign of the formed/performed self.

What Remains

Questioning the importance of memory  and how to move past tragedy keeps the piece moves from stage left to stage right. The piece gives a sense of perpetual repeating of a memory or dream as the dancers replay the “scene” in an attempt to find closure.

Fractured Urgency

A highly intense & turbulent group piece that focuses on the personal disconnect of our society.  This piece draws the audience’s attention to how the dancers interact through a series of frenzied unemotionally attached movements.
